A 33-foot humpback whale carcass was found washed up on the shore of Nauset Light Beach in Cape Cod Friday morning.
According to The Cape Cod Times, the first report of the whale was received Thursday evening by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).
The U.S. Coast Guard received reports of a dead whale floating near Eastham and Orleans earlier the same day.
This is not the first report of humpback whales washing up on the shores of Cape Cod.
Earlier this summer two juvenile humpback whales were found on Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge and Monomoy Beach on the same day.
After performing a full necropsy on the animal finding, large amounts of parasite crassicauda was found in the system of the two young whales, which could have caused kidney failure.
As of now, there is no cause of death for the whale found on Nauset Light Beach. Seashore rangers are asking onlookers to stay back from the carcass as they will be placing warning signs around the body.
