40Kg of Plastic Found In the Stomach of a Young Dead Whale

      

A few months back In Indonesia a dead whale has been washed ashore after intake of 6kg of plastic. Again, a young dead whale has been found in the Philippines.

According to the reporter, the whale has died due to gastric shock after swallowing 40kg plastic bags. From D’Bone Collector Museum in Davao city Marine biologists and volunteers, Mindanao in the Facebook page posted the cause behind the death of the Whale.

After inspecting the whale stomach they found that 40kilos of plastic bags, which includes 16 rice sacks, 4 banana plantation style bags, and maximum shopping bags. They said that this is the highest amount of plastic they ever found inside a whale.

Lindsay Mosher, Blue Habits Project Manager for the Ocean Society said that the tragic death of the Whale by plastic is the wake-up call that something must be done to stop the Ocean plastic pollution.

Through the post, they request the government to take strict action against those who dump waste in the ocean. According to the report of 2017 Ocean Conservancy, 60% of the world’s plastic is found in the oceans of the Philippines, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand.

The president of D’Bone Collector Museum Darrel Blatchley said to the CNN Philippines that,

“I was not prepared for the amount of plastic. It was so big, the plastic was beginning calcification. In the last 10 years, we have recovered 61 whales and dolphins, of which 57 have died due to fishing nets, dynamite fishing, and plastic garbage. Four were pregnant. This cannot continue. The Philippines needs to change from the children up or nothing will be left.”
