Algix technology creates bioplastics with algae

A sustainability company in Meridian is paving the way in cleaning up our waterways by using the toxic algae to create bioplastic materials.

Ryan Hunt, co-founder of Algix, says the technology they have developed can separate the particles of algae from the water.

As the algae is removed, oxygen is pumped into the water, giving marine life a more suitable environment.  Algix is then able to transform the biomass proteins from the algae to create bioplastics.

It may seem like a win-win for the company and our environment, but Hunt says he can’t help the Coast without approval from state leaders.
