DERA GHAZI KHAN: Another blind Indus dolphin has been found dead near Ghazi Ghat bridge.

It is the second incident of alleged killing of Indus dolphin near Ghazi Ghat bridge within the current year. Earlier, two dolphins were found dead in January. It is generally believed that netters catch the dolphin while fishing trout and then leave it on the ground or shallow water along the river.

Divisional head of wildlife department Hasan Ali Sukhaira told Dawn they found dead dolphin in the south of Ghazi Ghat bridge and brought it to the wildlife office for biopsy. He said the dead dolphin was buried on the premises of the wildlife office. He said the department had not yet lodged an FIR against any person.

Dr Imran Khaliq, assistant professor of the zoology department of Ghazi university, conducted biopsy of the dolphin.

He told Dawn the cause of death was suffocation and it (the death) had occurred some 24 hours ago.
