According to officials, the calf's 17-year-old mother, Whisper, had a normal and healthy pregnancy.
'Whisper received routine ultrasounds and health assessments to monitor her and the calf's progress throughout the pregnancy, which progressed as expected,' officials said.
'Additionally, there were no obvious signs of complications during labor and everything other wise [sic] appeared to progress normally.'
Whisper, who has lived at the Florida park since 2010, is 'active and alert', according to the statement, but she will continue to be monitored around-the-clock to make sure she is healthy.
The park will conduct a full post-mortem examination to attempt to determine what caused the baby beluga's death. Results will not be available for several weeks, however.
