And they also produced another 13.4 millimetres of rain between 9.30pm on Thursday and 4pm on Friday, with some minor flash flooding as the rain bucketed down in short, sharp bursts.

The storms were part of a fast-moving weather pattern across the Central West, with Dubbo and Orange also receiving hail and heavy rain.

The most recent falls have taken Bathurst's rainfall total to more than 690mm so far this year, a far cry from the 457mm recorded for all of 2019 and enough to ensure Ben Chifley Dam remains at capacity for another week.

And the Bureau of Meteorology says there could be more on the way with showers forecast for Monday, but only after the region enjoys some clear, sunny days on Saturday and Sunday.

A RED alert warning for blue-green algae remains in place at Ben Chifley Dam.

The warning, issued on November 4, means the dam remains closed to all recreational activities.

However, residents are assured the town's water supply has not been impacted by the algae outbreak and remains safe to drink.

Bathurst Regional Council will continue to monitor the dam algae levels over coming weeks.
