A beached whale in Ponce Inlet died Saturday despite rescue efforts from Volusia County Marine Mammal Stranding Team and Hubbs Seaworld.
A press release from Volusia County’s Beach Safety Ocean Rescue office said the sperm whale landed on the beach at about 1 p.m. The whale will receive a necropsy once it gets transported off the beach.
Sperm whales are typically found in colder deep waters of at least 3,300 feet, according to the National Wildlife Federation.
