Bottlenose dolphin dies at Dolphinaris facility in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A dolphin at the popular Dolphinaris Interaction facility has died.

Dolphinaris announced that Alia, a 10-year old female bottle-nose dolphin, passed away early Tuesday morning.

The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. The trainers reported that, "Alia had displayed some unusual behaviors in last few days and she was being monitored."

A necropsy will be performed, and the results will be reported in the coming weeks, according to a press release.

This has been the second dolphin that has died since Dolphinaris's opening in 2016.

Per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, bottle-nose dolphins have an average lifespan of 40 years.

Dolphinaris says their team is dedicated to providing each of its dolphins with the highest standard of care in accordance with the industry's best practices, as well as federal and international regulations.
