Brandy Creek Beach is closed after a "bright green bloom" appeared over the weekend.

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area posted on Facebook on Monday that a "bright green bloom" appeared on Sunday, prompting them to close the beach on Monday.

The bright green color was more visible on Sunday when the sun was out and not hidden by the clouds.

Brandy Creek Beach, a popular spot at Whiskeytown, will remain closed until the results of the water test come back.

Josh Hoines, the Superintendent of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, says the test results could take up to a few days to come back.

Two ponds in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area tested positive for toxic blue-green algae last summer but the ponds weren't frequently used by the public.

Hoines says right now, everything else is open at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.

Whiskeytown does water testing multiple times per month to ensure the safety of guests.

Toxic algae can be harmful to pets and humans.
