CENTRALIA, IL — The City of Centralia on Thursday announced Centralia Lake has been reopened to recreational use after the discovery of toxic algae was discovered that forced the closure of the lake last month.

Samples taken Thursday reportedly showed that cyanobacteria in the boat ramp area of the lake had dropped.

However, the cove area of the private residence where the algae bloom was first detected remain high so the City recommends people and pets continue to avoid contact with the water that has visible scum until the entire bloom dissipates.

The IEPA will continue to resample weekly and any changes will be reported.
