Crews rescue 8 stranded dolphins

BARNSTABLE, MA (WWAY) — The International Fund for Animal Welfare were in Barnstable Harbor to rescue dolphins that were stranded in the morning.

The IFAW said approximately 10 dolphins were stranded. At one point, three were stranded across from the lighthouse.

Some of the dolphins were able to refloat back into the water, but two dolphins grounded themselves a second time on Milway Beach. Rescue crews had to cart the dolphins up the beach into a vehicle in order to be taken to a safer, deep water release point. Eight dolphins were rescued by the IFAW.

Beachgoers can help stranded dolphins stay calm by keeping their distance and their voices down until a rescue team arrives.
