Dead dolphin washed ashore in Biloxi

A dead dolphin washed ashore on Biloxi Beach Tuesday evening.
The Institute for Marine Mammals Studies responded to the call of the dolphin that was found dead on the beach by Debuys Road and upon arrival the dolphin was already badly decomposed.
Dr. Moby Solangi says they were not able to perform a necropsy on the animal because of the condition it was in, but was able to determine it was a young dolphin.
Dr. Solangi tells News 25 that this is not a result of red tide, but what he calls “the dead zone.” “We do have, what we call the dead zone being created. The dead zone is the largest right now this year. It’s that fresh water that comes in and brings fertilizers and industrial and agriculture wastes. So, all this flooding, I believe may have something to do with these large numbers of animals that are dying.”
Solangi says this is the 43rd dolphin that has been found dead this year and believes the flood waters from Tropical Storm Cindy is contributing to their deaths.
