PHILIPPINES (WFLA/CNN) – A whale was found dead in the Philippines over the weekend with 88 pounds of plastic in its stomach.
The whale was described as a juvenile male curvier beaked whale. He was found on a beach on Saturday.
A team from D’Bone Collector Museum in Davao City performed a necropsy on the whale and found 88 pounds of plastic in his stomach. The team said it was “the most plastic we have ever seen in a whale.”
The items found in the whale’s stomach included 16 rice bags, four banana bags and several shopping bags.
“It’s disgusting,” museum officials wrote in a Facebook post. “Action must be taken by the government against those who continue to treat the waterways and ocean as dumpsters.”
