CANNON BEACH, Ore. (AP) - A dead humpback whale has washed up on a beach just eight miles south of Cannon Beach.

A representative with the Oregon Marine Mammal Stranding Network tells KATU-TV that the whale washed ashore near Oswald West State Park on Friday, but officials believe the animal had been dead for some time.

A necropsy will be scheduled soon to learn how it died.

Stephanie Gooch, who lives near the state park, tells The Oregonian/OregonLive that the whale’s bloated stomach has since exploded as of Saturday.
