Rescue crews are attempting to free a whale entangled off the Wollongong coast.

Marine Rescue NSW crews are working with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and volunteers to free the calf off Five Islands.

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Glenn Sullivan said a private vessel was also helping the rescue mission.

Volunteers are working to free a whale entangled off New South Wales's south coast. Marine Rescue New South Wales has deployed the National Parks and Wildlife Service Zodiac to help with the rescue mission.

“We’ve got a good window of opportunity to assist with the disentanglement operation because the weather conditions are favourable,” Inspector Sullivan said.

“Marine Rescue vessel PK 31 will escort the NPWS Zodiac to the entangled whale shortly.”
