A new psychological illness with symptoms including hallucinations and muscle twitches is affecting a large cluster of people in Canada and leaving doctors mystified, Fox News host Tucker Carlson reported.

“It might be nothing, but we don’t know” Carlson told his audience before inviting Dr. Marc Siegel on his namesake show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to explain what he knew about the puzzling illness that has affected at least 48 people aged 18 and up over the past two years in the New Brunswick area in Canada.

“First people thought it was mad cow disease which spreads by something called a prion. This is pretty concerning and scary,” Siegel explained.

“You’re fine one day, then you suddenly get anxiety, hallucinations, dizziness, discoordination, pain, memory loss,” the doctor described. “You just can’t get the words out.”

Siegel added that a 20-year-old young woman who had hoped to become a doctor herself is now in a wheelchair due to the disease.

Many people online proffered a theory as to the source of the mystery illness.

But the professor of medicine at New York University Grossman School of Medicine explained that it is likely caused by a neurotoxin and is probably not an infectious disease.

“In this area of the Atlantic coast, we’re seeing a lot of blue algae. A chemical called BMAA. That chemical is a cyto-bacteria,” the doctor explained. “It’s toxic and it probably can cause this if you get enough of it and they haven’t ruled it out yet.”

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health in New Brunswick explored the algae bloom theory but their investigation did not link algae to the perplexing illness. Their report also notes that symptoms may have begun as early as 2013, making the vaccine injury theory implausible.

“They have been looking for everything else, damage to the brain, encephalitis, infection, they haven’t ruled this out yet,” he said. “I’m suspicious that this is a neurotoxin and I think they have to do further investigation before more people die and more people get sick.”

Siegel also believes the serious affliction has been underdiagnosed and is likely more widespread.

“Bottom line, doctor. It does sound real, it’s not something people are imagining?” Tucker asked.

“And that’s a key point because every time something like this happens people say, ‘oh, it’s anxiety.’ It’s way more than that. It’s totally real. It’s a neurodegenerative diseasing,” Siegel asserted. “It’s very scary and real.”
