Dolphin calf dies minutes after birth at Sea World’s Aquatica

Orlando, Fla — A new born Commerson dolphin died minutes after being born Saturday night at SeaWorld’s Aquatic water park.

The small, white and black dolphins can be seen near the entrance to the park swimming around a water slide.

The 16-year-old mother, Ringer, had four previous unsuccessful pregnancies before coming to Aquatica from SeaWorld San Diego in January 2016.

SeaWorld posted the news on its blog with the statement "While unexpected, Ringer's pregnancy was important to our animal care and veterinary teams. Throughout her entire pregnancy, the teams put a great deal of planning and thought into preparing for the birth to help set Ringer and the calf up for success."

Officials say Ringer is now under 24-hour observation and appears to be doing well, meantime, a necropsy will be performed on the calf to help determine the cause of death.

Ringer is one of the last four Commerson dolphin's in the SeaWorld Company.
