Entangled Gray Whale Spotted Near Dana Point

By

/

The first problem is the gray whale has a metal cage-like frame attached to its head. The second problem is rescue teams don’t know where it is.

“We’ve got teams looking for it but at this point we have not re-sighted it since Saturday.”

Justin Viezbicke is the California Stranding Network Coordinator for NOAA Fisheries. He says they don’t often see whales with entanglements like this.

“So it’s a unique entanglement that’s going to be very challenging for us to address, if at all possible.”

He says they need help spotting the wounded whale that was last seen near Dana Point. If you do, take a picture of it and call 877-SOS-WHALE.

If they don’t get to it, it may starve to death.
