Experts say stranded dolphin in Jackson County is under stress

The dolphin stranded in Jackson County still has not found its way back to sea.
The dolphin has been trapped in Old Fort Bayou in Jackson County since last Wednesday. Marine experts tell News 25 the dolphin has been circling the same area where the water is about four feet deep.
According to Institute for Marine Mammal Studies Director Moby Solangi, teams have been checking the dolphin every day and the mammal has been showing signs of stress. The water the dolphin seems to be trapped in is a danger to its health. “The salinity is very low which is almost like fresh water and it’s not very good for the animal and the next few days we’re going to have a lot of rain and we’re worried about it. If this animal continues to be in the same situation we will either try to push it out by using nets and others.”
If their plan for removing the dolphin from the bayou doesn’t work, the institute will call for the federal government’s assistance.
