In an incident that's been described as "awesome and scary at the same time", diver Hamish Stewart has come face to face with three killer whales.
Footage of the moment was filmed by Mr Stewart's sister Kylie Strongman from the boat they were on, which was perched on a portion of ocean near Rangipukea Island, off the Coromandel coast.
In the incredible video, Ms Strongman can be heard warning her brother of the looming threat of the whales.
"They're coming - it's coming right to you! They're right there!" she screams at Mr Stewart.
However that didn't deter him, and he can be seen edging closer to the whales before coming face to face with them from what appears to be less than 10 metres away.
In another video filmed by Ms Strongman on the same day, killer whales can be seen circling and swimming underneath their boat.
