This group of right whales was spotted socializing 30 miles east of Jekyll Island on Feb. 15. Scientists say no new right whales were observed being born last season.

With only a few weeks left in right whale calving season, Clay George of the state Department of Natural Resources spoke the continuing refrain.

“Unfortunately, no calves yet,” he said.
