Heroic bathers rush to rescue a dolphin stranded on a Spanish beach with a fishing line caught in its mouth

This is the incredible moment heroic bathers successfully rescued a beached dolphin with a fishing line.

Phone footage shows a group of beachgoers in Puerto de Santa Maria in the province of Cadiz, Spain, surrounding the stranded animal on the shore.

After a few tugs, the animal opens its mouth and they are able to successfully disentangle the line. 

Four men then set about moving the animal deeper into the water.

When they are waist-deep in the water, one of the men gives the animal a push, and it swims away.

One bather, Inés Oliva Pérez, told local paper La Voz de Cadiz: 'It was as if it was coming to ask for help.'

The video has been widely shared by the Spanish media, attracting thousands of views across the globe.
