Incredible footage has surfaced of a shark tearing chunks off a humpback whale.
A dead whale nicknamed "Scarlet" washed ashore at Newport Beach, California last week.
Lifeguards floated the 16-metre whale back out to the open ocean, making it an easy lunch for the shark.
Keith Poe and a grad student headed offshore in the hopes of capturing the a shark snacking on the bloated carcass.
As luck would have it, a pregnant great white shark was caught on camera ripping in to the whale.
The shark feasted for over 18 hours.
Poe was "blown away on the impressive presence of such a large predator."
"She looked like she was here to give birth - she was very large in her girth," he told The Register. "As she was eating the whale, it was ridiculous how big she got."
The whale was nicknamed Scarlet because it was seen covered in reddish lice and tangled in fishing gear.
