Tourist spots around the globe offer people a chance to swim with whales and dolphins.
But a recent study from a New Zealand biologist shows that the welfare of some dolphins is being affected by the unregulated tourism industry.
Many tourists aren't realizing they're preventing dolphins from sleeping when they go on these tours. When the tourists go into the areas where the dolphins are sleeping, they rouse and start leaping more.
Tourists were shocked to find that they were disturbing the dolphins so much.
"If I'd known, I wouldn't have gone in the water," one told researcher Maddalena Fumagalli.
