Israel offers to set up algae, cannabis farms in Uttarakhand
Dehradun: An Israeli trade delegation on Wednesday met CM Trivendra Singh Rawat and offered to set up Algae and Cannabis farms in Uttarakhand.
An Israeli company Puremagic Limited showed interest in farming and processing of GMP cannabis (medicinal cannabis) in Uttarakhand which has a huge demand for medicinal uses in Indian and international markets.
The foreign delegation informed that the company is exploring possibilities of having a tie-up with Indian Industrial Hemp Association (IIHA) for farming and processing of medicinal GMP cannabis.

The Indian Industrial Hemp Association (IIHA) is the lone licensee of hemp cultivation in Uttarakhand. The Israeli delegation will also inspect the cannabis farm of IIHA at Pauri Garhwal, on Wednesday.
According to CM, with the implementation of these projects, there would be possibilities of generation of employment in agriculture, transportation, packaging and marketing fields in Uttarakhand.
Delegation also informed CM Rawat that Puremagic is interested in producing Haematococcus pluvialis, species of algae, which is used in producing Astaxanthin, which can be further used in cosmetics and nutritional supplement with Israeli technology in Uttarakhand.
