Mysterious giant marine creature found washed ashore on Indonesia's island

As per reports, the almost 50-feet long carcass was discovered by 37-year-old local resident Asrul Tuanakota near Iha village in West Seram district on Tuesday evening.

New Delhi: A giant, decaying sea creature found washed up on the shores of Seram Island in Indonesia's Maluku province earlier this week has baffled residents, who initially thought it was a giant squid.

However, after further examination, officials now said that the remains of the massive marine animal looks more like a sperm whale.

As per reports, the almost 50-feet long carcass was discovered by 37-year-old local resident Asrul Tuanakota near Iha village in West Seram district on Tuesday evening (09/05).

Nasrun, who works for the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in West Seram, was quoted by news portal Detik.com as saying that it was most likely a whale.

“It is a type of sperm whale,” Nasrun, who works for the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in West Seram, was quoted by news portal Detik.com as saying.

According to Nasrun, residents insisted that the dead animal was a squid because part of the remains looked like tentacles.
