O'LEARY, P.E.I. — O'Leary town council has earmarked $696,000 in Gas Tax funds towards sewer utility upgrades.

The money includes $165,000 left over from the town’s Pate Garden Drive subdivision extension and most of the $600,000 the town is due to receive from the Gas Tax fund over the next five years.

The lagoon has been experiencing issues with an algae bloom and with extreme corrosion of electrical and metal components in the plant’s UV chamber.

Upgrades could include sludge removal, aggressive aerator machinery, creation of shade to inhibit the growth and bloom of algae and repairs and/or replacement of the facility’s UV system.
