The City of Frederick is taking precautions to make sure surrounding water sources don’t develop bad smells or tastes.

The Department of Public Works applied 180 pounds of copper sulfate to Lake Linganore Wednesday morning, spraying the solution, diluted with water, along shorelines.

Officials say the summer heat produces more algae, and could cause taste and odor issues for residents.

The fishing creek reservoir was also treated with four pounds of the treatment.
