PMBC officials were contacted by Mayor Aroon at 6:45pm yesterday and told that a dolphin had been found swimming along the shore at Rawai Beach. It was said that the dolphin had many wounds on its body and appeared to be having trouble breathing.

Officials from PMBC and rescue workers managed to bring the dolphin from the water and transport it to the Marine Biological Centre where it was given care and intravenously given antibiotics. However, the dolphin later passed away.

Dr Kongkret Kitiwattanawong, Chief of the Phuket Marine Endangered Species Unit, said, “After being brought to the centre, the dolphin was given veterinary care and antibiotics but it was not enough to save it.

“We believe that the dolphin died of an infection, however, we will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death,” he said.
