Officials say a possibly entangled humpback whale was spotted near Raritan Bay.
The Coast Guard says the whale was reported Saturday near Raritan Bay. A Coast Guard rescue boat and a New Jersey state police vessel were sent to enforce a safety zone.
The Coast Guard has since issued a warning for boaters to keep an eye out for the whale. Boaters are asked not to approach the animal or try to disentangle it themselves.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration tweeted it is working on a plan to help the whale.
AP Wires contributed to this report.
