Jamesville Beach reopened on July 30 when another Onondaga County beach, Oneida Shores, closed because of E. Coli in the water.

On Thursday, the Onondaga County Health Department announced that Jamesville Beach will close due to potentially dangerous algae.

Algae blooms can turn water green and create thick surface scums on the water, the county said. Certain types of algae can release toxins that may irritate eyes and skin, or cause diarrhea or vomiting.

The county confirmed that through water sampling, they will determine whether there are any toxins in the water before reopening the beach.

The park's other amenities will remain open with precautions in place against COVID-19.
