SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (KGBT) – Volunteers rescued a dolphin Monday morning near South Padre Island.

About three weeks ago, people on South Padre Island started reporting a dolphin tangled in fishing line, said Blair Mase, a regional response coordinator with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Sea World San Antonio, Sea World Orlando and the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network dispatched volunteers to South Padre Island to investigate.

The volunteers found the dolphin on Monday morning, Mase said, adding that the dolphin appeared to have been fed by humans — putting the dolphin in danger.

Volunteers freed the dolphin from about three pounds of fishing line, Mase said.
