BAKERSFIELD, Calif., (KBAK/KBFX) — Kern County Public Health says people who intend to head to Isabella Lake should avoid certain areas due to potentially harmful algal blooms.
Many people are using the lake as a place to cool down during the current heatwave, but KCPH warns that toxin the blooms can cause sickness within people and pets.
The algal bloom is caused by cyanobacteria, which is classified as a neurotoxin that can cause rashes or even death.
KCPH is currently monitoring two spots that are considered to be in a dangerous zone.
So far, no injuries or illnesses have been reported.
