RED ALERT FOR BLUE-GREEN ALGAE AT SPLIT ROCK DAM

A red-alert for blue-green algae has been issued for the water storage at Split Rock Dam.

People should not come in to direct contact with the water and farmers are also being warned it could pose threat to livestock and pets.

The type of algae identified is potentially toxic and can lead to gastroenteritis if consumed, and cause skin and eye irritations.

Town water supplies remain unaffected and are safe to drink.

Warning signs will remain in place until the level of blue-green algae is downgraded.
