Your summer plans at Eagle Island State Park just got hotter after an announcement this morning from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation saying swimming or any contact with the water is closed.

This was following a series of tests which revealed cyanobacteria and algae in the pond area at Eagle Island. Gary Shelley, Park Manager of Eagle Island says safety takes top priority at the park, “If there is any chance of harm coming to our public, then we would rather do it this way, than waiting for samples to come back.”

IDPR is now working in partnership with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality to determine whether there are potential toxins in the water related to the bloom.

While swimming is closed off to people and pets, the rest of the park remains open.
