Canandaigua, N.Y. - Health officials in Ontario County are alerting residents of a report of blue-green algae blooms in a section of Canandaigua Lake.
The County Health Department said it received a report of blooms around the designated swim areas of Kershaw Beach.
The swimming park at Kershaw Beach and the small boat launch area have been closed. Health officials say swimming and boating is allowed in other parts of Canandaigua Lake that do not have visible blooms.
Exposure to blue-green algae can be harmful for both humans and animals. Anyone who comes in contact with blooms should wash the impacted area with soap and water, or use clean water to rinse it thoroughly.
