Humpback whales are enormous in size – the largest living things on earth. The average wight of an adult is considered around 36,000kg, however, this didn’t stop this particular mammal to put on a marvelous display in the air, when it leapt completely out of the water off South Africa. The entire incident has been recorded in a video, boredpanda.com report said. As per the report the footage was shot by Craig Capehart, a scuba diver in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mbotyi. He was sitting in a inflatable boat when the whale made an appearance. He felt that the whale must have weight around 40 tonnes.
Along with the video, he wrote a caption saying, “It seems that never before has a recording been made of an adult humpback whale leaping entirely out of the water! A very rare event, indeed.”
“Dolphins and even Great White Sharks have been seen flying out of the water, but this is a first for an adult humpback whale, ” he added.
As per Indian Express, Capehart saw the whale, leap out of the water like a dolphin. Great white sharks and Dolphins have been seen flying out of the water, but this was a first time for an adult humpback whale. The small video of the whale has got more than 1,00,00 views in the internet.
In May, A group of marine biologists had submitted a report to the International Whaling Commission, Slovenia, expressing concern over increase in the number of whales washing ashore in India’s west coast since last two years. In its report, biologists cited 16 incidences of whale mortality along the west coast in 2015, followed by 20 in 2016. This was by far more than in any year between 2001 and 2014, when the number of whale deaths did not go up from four.
