Swimming off limits in the Wildwood Reservoir after blue-green algae detected

You’ll have to make other plans if your long weekend included going swimming in the Wildwood Reservoir.

The Perth District Health Unit and Southwestern Public Health say a bloom of blue-green algae has been detected in the Wildwood Reservoir at the Wildwood Conservation Area.

They say the algae can produce toxins which may be harmful to health through direct contact or consumption.

The Health Units say the reservoir is unsafe for swimming and until further notice, residents and visitors should avoid swimming in it.

They also say pets should not be allowed to drink or swim in it and you should not eat fish caught in the reservoir.

Toxins can stay in the water up to three weeks after the bloom is gone and the water at the reservoir will continue to be monitored.
