The municipality of Hagondage temporarily banned swimming in its lake. The culprit is a well-known one...

With a blistering heatwave and record-breaking temperatures set to invade Luxembourg and its surrounding countries, the timing could not be worse... but health comes first.

The Ballastière lake in Hagondage will remain temporarily closed due to cyanobacteria.

The infamous "blue algae" bloom during hot weather if there is not current or aeration of the waterway. The algae are toxic to humans and animals alike.

Speaking on the France Bleu Lorraine Nord radio channel, mayor Jean-Claude Mahler was forced to acknowledge the poor test results and prohibit swimming in the pond. New tests will be carried out to monitor the evolution of the bacteria.

Hagondage's nautical base, complete with chairs and a beach, remains open. Only swimming in the pond is prohibited.
