Three British sailors have been rescued in the Atlantic after their yacht hit a WHALE.
The Portuguese Navy spokesman confirmed the rescue operation happened after the British-flagged yacht "suffered damage caused by a collision with a whale ."
Portuguese rescuers mobilised two military planes to pick up the Brits after the collision off the Azores, although they ended up being brought to safety on board a Liberian-flagged merchant vessel which responded to their SOS call.
They were today said to be in good health after the drama - and on their way to the northern Spanish port city of Aviles which was the merchant vessel's destination.
The collision happened 356 miles north-west of the Azores island Terceira.
The unnamed Brits, aged 41 to 61, were on a yacht called Destiny of Scarborough.
The rescue took place just after 3pm local time yesterday.
A spokesman said the three Brits were all "in good health" and had suffered no injuries.
