KIRKLAND, WA β€” Beach goers in Kirkland are being told to avoid the water at Juanita Beach in the coming weeks after a toxic algal bloom was found on Wednesday.

In a release, Seattle & King County said people and their pets should not come in contact with the water at Juanita Beach.

Anyone who has had contact with the water and later had a sudden sickness or signs of poisoning should call his or her doctor. Anyone's pets showing unexplained signs of sickness should call their veterinarian.

Signs have been posted at the beach alerting beach goers to the algal bloom.

Restrictions on water usage will stay in place until low algal toxins are detected for two consecutive weeks.
