In a post on social media, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area announced the reopening of Brandy Creek Beach Wednesday at 1 p.m.

They stated that the results of recent water testing in the area showed no toxic algae present.

During the testing, the park's Roads and Trails crew took advantage of the two-day closure by removing numerous hazard trees, which they stated is what made it possible to open Lot B.

This lot will allow them to double the available parking at Brandy Creek from 100 spaces to 200 spaces total.

Officials say they will be able to limit the total capacity of the area to better manage for physical distancing during peak hours.

Originally, the beach had closed after a "bright green bloom" appeared over the weekend.

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area had posted on Facebook on Monday that a "bright green bloom" appeared on Sunday, prompting them to close the beach on Monday.
